A taxonomic re-assessment of the widespread oriental bumblebee Bombus flavescens (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

چکیده

Bombus flavescens Smith is one of the most widespread bumblebee species in Oriental region. Due to colour polymorphisms, this or species-complex has been a challenge for taxonomy. This study aims assess taxonomic status -complex using evidence from COI barcodes and morphology. We then reconstruct its biogeographic history phylogenetic analysis populations across current range, combining with 16S nuclear PEPCK data. Despite large range polymorphisms distribution, results show that B. single based on algorithmic delimitation methods, it clearly separated sister species, rotundiceps Friese. suggest diverged lineage Himalaya dispersed into Southeast Asia Pleistocene. Conservation will need consider several unique island populations.

Homing ability of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

The ability of bumblebees to locate their nest site following artificial displacement was investigated. Bombus terrestris (Hymenoptera: Apidae) workers were marked with numbered tags and displaced up to 15 km from their nest. Bees returned from distances of up to 9.8 km, with the proportion of bees returning declining with distance of the release site from the nest. Bees were slow to return to ...

Photoreceptor Spectral Sensitivity in the Bumblebee, Bombus impatiens (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

The bumblebee Bombus impatiens is increasingly used as a model in comparative studies of colour vision, or in behavioural studies relying on perceptual discrimination of colour. However, full spectral sensitivity data on the photoreceptor inputs underlying colour vision are not available for B. impatiens. Since most known bee species are trichromatic, with photoreceptor spectral sensitivity pea...

A serine protease from the midgut of the bumblebee, Bombus ignitus (Hymenoptera: Apidae): cDNA

A serine protease gene was cloned from the bumblebee, Bombus ignitus. The B. ignitus serine protease (BiSP) gene spans 1702 bp and consists of four introns and five exons coding for 250 amino acid residues. Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA suggested that BiSP gene is a single copy gene. The cDNA encoding BiSP was expressed as a 28-kDa polypeptide in baculovirusinfected insect cells and the...

Analysis of the labial gland secretions of the male bumblebee Bombus griseocollis (Hymenoptera: Apidae).

The labial gland secretions from males of the bumblebee Bombus (Separatobombus) griseocollis De Geer, a bumblebee exhibiting perching behaviour, were analysed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in the electron impact and positive ion chemical ionization mode. The major compound of the complex mixture of alkenols, acetates, hydrocarbons, wax type esters and steroids is tetradecyl ac...

Lethal and sublethal effects of azadirachtin on the bumblebee Bombus terrestris (Hymenoptera: Apidae).

Azadirachtin is a biorational insecticide commonly reported as selective to a range of beneficial insects. Nonetheless, only few studies have been carried out with pollinators, usually emphasizing the honeybee Apis mellifera and neglecting other important pollinator species such as the bumblebee Bombus terrestris. Here, lethal and sublethal effects of azadirachtin were studied on B. terrestris ...
